Bottles of Hope
By Kim Kennedy
Note: The Bottles of Hope program (BOH) is one of those feel-good projects for everyone involved. It is a great project for regional polymer clay guilds and also for Scout troops. We will continue to showcase this project as time goes by.

Begun by Diane Gregoire of the Southern Connecticut Polymer Clay Guild, this is a project that can be taken on by any group with any skill level. Diane, herself a cancer survivor, noticed all the tiny bottles used to hold an inert substance that "pushes" the chemical therapy. She wondered over the waste of these cute bottles and what could be done with them.

Being a polymer clay artist, it didn't take long before clay was applied to bottles. Bottle of Hope can be ornate or simple, as long as they are done with love.

Here is a sample of a BOH created by the author.
These bottles are from the Montreal Polymer Clay Guild.
Peggy O'Neill made these (pcPolyzine March 2003).
Some folks get elaborate when they make their BOH. Here are examples from the San Diego Polymer Clay Guild.

To read the history of the project and to start one of your own, follow this link: Bottles of Hope, SCPCG. I encourage artists from across the USA and around the world to begin their own BOH program. If anyone starts their own project or has an existing one, we'd love to share it. Contact Kim Kennedy for details.
