Networks Signs HGTV's Carol Duvall to Multi-Year Shop at Home Pact
Wednesday October 6, 4:40 pm ET
Duvall is the host of "The Carol Duvall Show," one of the first original series that aired on Home & Garden Television. As part of her agreement with Shop At Home, Duvall will represent the company's crafting business as well as scout new product lines endemic to her crafting roots to help the electronic retailer round out its lifestyle retail offerings.
The pact includes provisions for both new and existing products. Duvall will appear regularly on Shop At Home, where she will offer expert advice and focus primarily on product demonstrations. Both parties hope the relationship will enable Duvall to launch her own private-label brand that Shop At Home would sell exclusively. Other terms included in the agreement are promotional elements, such as short-form programming and a syndicated column for Duvall.
Shop At Home President Judy Girard said the partnership is a visible and significant milestone in the evolving commerce strategy for Scripps Networks.
"Ten years after helping HGTV blaze the trail for a whole new category of television programming, Carol now becomes the first of what will become a growing number of our Scripps Networks on-air personalities helping us to pioneer a new category of television retailing and merchandising," said Girard.
In late 2003, Duvall's program expanded to DIY-Do It Yourself, where it is now part of the network's daytime lineup. She has taped more than 1,000 episodes, which will remain part of the HGTV and DIY programming lineup for the forseeable future.
"I'm excited about this new endeavor with Shop At Home and delighted that it means continuing my long association with Scripps Networks," said Duvall. "We'll continue to have many of the guests from my show demonstrating projects, but the merchandising aspect will enable us to connect with the viewers on a whole new level. It should be a win-win situation for everybody and I'm looking forward to it."
