Here is a picture of my worktable laid out with red, white, and blue
Mokume Gane slices during a "Hearts for Heroes" work session at a
meeting of the Sandhills Polymer Clay Guild in Fayetteville, North
Carolina.
It is my firm belief that when God
wants to get my attention, He sometimes taps me on the shoulder, and
other times, whacks me in the head. Evidently I wasn't paying
attention, because on the night of July 28, I literally got hit by a
lightning bolt! Well, I might be exaggerating just a bit -- I
personally didn't get hit by lightning, but my house did. There was a
loud (and I mean, loud) pop
as lightning struck the TV, followed by sparks and smoke and cats
running here and there and, well, you get the idea. Suffice it to say,
my attention was immediately undivided and I stood ready for whatever
message was trying to get through to me. Whew!
I guess the message was something about slowing down, not stressing
over things so much, letting go of my over-achiever tendencies....that
kind of stuff. Because, after the storm, I was without telephone
service for nine days, the TV and my computer were fried, and the
Internet service was just a vague memory. Oh, and did I mention my car
broke down the very next morning? To top it off (as if it needing
topping) my monthly cash supplement is evidently floating around in the
Bermuda Triangle, because it sure didn't show up here!
Maybe I was supposed to learn that having my daughter grow up, get
engaged and plan to move away, is not such a big deal after all. Maybe
the troubles I had been wallowing around in were mild, compared to what
I could be challenged by. Maybe I need to just quit my whining and
count a few more Blessings instead. What I do know is that this whole episode
forced me to take a different picture of my life and re-gear. No phone,
no Internet, no email, no TV. It was a veritable Gilligan's Island,
except that cute Professor guy never showed up. Probably just as well.
But enough of my rambling. Let's talk about pcPolyzine, why don't we? There's a
new feature for all you scrapbookers -- a lovely page designed by Linda
Hess using handmade polymer clay embellishments. Look for Linda's pages
in each new issue. There's also a new section on making polymer clay
oriented cards, gift tags, and bookmarks. We've added a weblog and
become a Zazzle.com affiliate as well. There are all kinds of new
things in the works...weather permitting.
So, now that
you've got plenty to look at in this new issue of the ezine, and I've
got most of my technical glitches fixed, I guess I'll get started on
the next installment. Try to stay cool, remember to unplug everything
if a storm starts, and write
to me if
you get a chance.
