Note: Polymer clay workshops are popping up all over the country and
they are wildly popular. Even if you are an "armchair" clayer, you can
enjoy the fun by reading about Marty's experience in Las Vegas.

Just
before Christmas I had
a chance to attend one of Lisa Pavelka’s Heart in Hand Studio
workshops
in Las Vegas
and do I feel Lucky---not playing the slots but with the whole
experience of the Las Vegas Polymer Clay Retreat, December 2004. It was held at The Imperial Palace Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada.
We stayed there and that is the way to go—just walk from the room to
the
classroom in 5 minutes. Also, Kato
Polyclayâ provided ALL the clay
for us so we only had to bring very few basic supplies!
WOW---when you are flying from Texas, that means a
lot!

Here is my “Boid” pin made is a class taught by
Sue Kelsey. These are such fun and the
grandkids just loved them.
Knowing
it was a two-day
workshop and so far away from East Texas,
my
hubby and I decided to make it a little mini vacation.
He went with me and we went a couple of days
early to just kick back and have a good time---we also stayed a couple
of days
after so I could shop and enjoy the area. Shop
I did! Lucky
again! I
went twice to :
Las
Vegas Art Stamps, 2925 E. Green Valley Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89014.
Telephone: 702-367-0411 Las
Vegas
Art Stamps Website. Owner,
Linda was there and I
had a great time talking to her and telling her I wanted a shop like it
in the Dallas
area!!!!!
Another Lucky
experience is that the Las Vegas Polymer Guild met on the Monday after
the
workshop and I was able to attend their Holiday Party and Meeting. What a wonderful group---large and full of
talent. What fun!!! They
had an auction that evening for the Susan G
Koman Breast Cancer
Center.

Klew and Carl (her hubby)
run the store during our workshops. Many
of the artists had supplies or art to sell in the store.
Very enticing!
This workshop consisted of
two days---four classes a day and you didn’t have to leave your space
and move
to another class---the teachers moved so you could set up and enjoy the
day. Lucky again! I met a clay
artist from Idaho
who was a wonderful
tablemate and neat person. She is very talented and eager to learn it
all. “Karen”
helped me remember what was said and was I glad----I am not a very good
listener. I guess the reason why I attend meetings and workshops is all
the
wonderful people you meet and the inspiration from everyone when I come
back
home. Karen was so nice and we enjoyed
each other. I felt like I had known her
for years. I think this clay produces such good friends!!!

The teachers Heart in
Hand Studio had teaching the
workshops were some of the very best. Lisa
Pavelka: Faux Postage Stamp Pendant, Sue
Kelsey: "Boids,
Boids, Boids", Donna Kato: Polyclay Brocade, Kim Cavender: Cane Crazy,
Jacqueline Lee: Instant Antiquities, KLEW (aka Karen Lewis): Snowflake
Cane
Earrings, Cathy Johnston: Post-It Note Books, and Leslie Blackford:
Ancient
Animal Relics. [Names are not listed in the same order as the
photo].
Having
such a varied group
of teachers there showing us their tips and tricks made the whole
experience
very worthwhile. Along with learning good tips, the personalities of
these
teachers made me feel VERY LUCKY and I didn't have to pull a
slot handle
once!!!!
Below are a few of the teachers'
samples:
