Introducing C. Ann Ross and Her Inspired Approach to Polymer Clay - Page Two

An Artist Interview
By Jeannie Havel

Cheryl attributes her success to hard work and Divine Intervention. She is a self-described born again Christian. "I use the phrase 'a Saint who occasionally sins,'" Cheryl explains. "I want glory for everything I create to go to our Lord Jesus Christ." But Cheryl knows that not everyone will accept or support her religious position. "I suppose in a world where loving Jesus Christ is considered being a fanatic I will just accept that I might be labeled from time to time because I am passionate about bringing the word of our Lord to as many as I can."

Cheryl is realistic about society's vast reactions to her being an openly Christian artist, but she is not daunted. She takes all of life's challenges in stride and says she believes that most of what occurs in her life furthers "her ability to serve our Lord Jesus Christ."

To that end, Cheryl formed a new Yahoo Group earlier this year, the Christian Crafters Forum that describes as "for those who want a place where they can talk about their art  and works while giving glory to Jesus Christ." She says,"the CCF embraces Christian ethics and uses scripture for guidance."

Cheryl reports that she really loves to cane, do Mica-shift, and the inlay processes used in her lamps. She finds soldering clay together to be challenging and very satisfying. She also enjoy surface treatments, texturing, Natasha, and Skinner blending. She says she doesn't have a favorite because "they are just too much fun--all of them."

Currently, Cheryl is busy creating her new website, www.cannross.com. "I want my website to be customized to regularly show my product updates and give information that will assist others to grow as I have grown. I want to create art that has a function in addition to being pleasing to the eye," Cheryl says. "I really get that the more the world begins to see polymer clay as a viable, creative, ART medium the better off we will all be as both a community and a resource for artistic fulfillment."

For now, until her website is fully operational, Cheryl can be contacted by email at: rc237@bellsouth.net. You can read more about Cheryl on her Bio page on the Southern Visionary Art website and in her teaching profile on Polymer Clay Central's Teachers Directory where she offers these words of encouragement to novice teachers:

"I have always trusted my heart and a dedication to excellence to guide any decision I make. If I feel that I can provide knowledge and value, then I am ready to teach. When in doubt I ask the Lord to help in my final decisions! If I can do it then you can do it too!"
