Progress & Possibilities ’06 Juried
Exhibit
The National Polymer Clay Guild is proud to announce “Progress &
Possibilities ‘06”, our second international juried exhibition, open to
all NPCG members. The number of entry categories has been
expanded to showcase the widest possible range of exceptional polymer
clay work. Submitted work must have been completed between April
2004 and March 2006 and not previously published. Selected works
will be mounted on the NPCG website and included in a show
catalog.
April 1 - Deadline for entries
June 15 - Notification sent to artists
August 15 - Show mounted on website
September 15 - Exhibit catalog available
Categories
All entries must be at least ½ polymer clay (except where noted)
and must be original and not the product of a class, book, video or
tutorial. Artists will select the category in which they will
compete; however the jury reserves the right to reclassify the category
of an entry according to the rules stated below.
1. Personal embellishments - including jewelry, buttons, purses, and
anything wearable
2. Figurative sculpture - including human, fantasy, animal figures, and
masks
3. Non-figurative sculpture - including home decor, lamps, frames, etc.
4. Containers, vessels, boxes, vases, baskets, bottles, bowls -
anything that might contain something else
5. Dolls – must be at least 1/8 polymer clay
6. Miniatures - 1/12 to 1/144 scale
7. Beads and bead sets - any object or related sets that are pierced by
a hole, not finished jewelry.
8. Alternative use - polymer clay used in place of traditional
materials, prints, paint, wood, ceramic, etc.
9. Mixed media - including journals, fabric arts and other work not
falling into other categories
Selections by Jury
Selection will be by jurors Dan Cormier, Kathleen Dustin, and Nan
Roche. The jury will view digital images with an identifying
number, but no names. Each piece will be scored on 1) overall
artistic merit, 2) originality of idea, 3) workmanship and 4)
difficulty of execution. The five highest scoring works of art in
each category will be accepted into the exhibit. The three highest
scoring works in each category will also be awarded First, Second and
Third, with the highest scoring piece overall named Best of Show.
For educational purposes, artists will receive a compilation of their
scores in each area judged to assist them in entrance to other
competitions.
Submissions
Artists may submit up to three entries with two digital images each
(overall view and detail shot) on a CD. CDs must be received by
April 1, 2006. Each image must be at least 300 dpi resolution,
minimum size 600 x 800 pixels and in TIFF format (preferred) or
high-resolution JPEG format. CDs with more than three entries,
more than two images per entry, incorrect resolution or format or
arriving past the submission deadline will not be reviewed. A
non-refundable entry fee check of $20 (or $15 if you are starting or
renewing your NPCG membership at this time) for up to three entries
must accompany your
submissions. Please include a separate check for your NPCG
membership. Make your check(s) payable to the National Polymer
Clay Guild. Entry forms may be downloaded from our website at: www.npcg.org, via email
request to Education@npcg.org,
or by USPS with
a business size self-addressed stamped envelope to Diane Villano,
Exhibit Coordinator, 1355 North High Street, East Haven, CT
06512. CDs will become property of the National Polymer Clay
Guild which retains the right to use submitted images in any lawful
way, including but not limited to publicity, publications, electronic
media,
etc., with full credit to the artist.
Exhibit catalog
An exhibit catalog will be published after the web gallery is
mounted. Award winners will be provided one free copy and artists
whose work was accepted into the show will be able to purchase one copy
at a reduced rate. The catalog will be available to others and
guilds at an individual price or a reduced rate for a quantity
order. To help provide financial support for the production costs
of the exhibit catalog, advertising space will be available for
polymer clay-related businesses and artists.
